As part of my history of comic fandom project, I am creating a list of comic book stores that have existed in the area. I'm looking for the history of each store...when did it open, when did it close, etc. If you have any information to add or edit, just let me know. (Current stores are marked in Blue)


8th Dimension Comics & Games (Jeremy and Annie Bulloch, with James Colson)

  • opened June 2011 by 
  • 8475 Texas 6 and West Road
  • relocated to a larger store in August 2015 at 15210 West Road

 

All Star Comics (when did it start, when did it close?)

  • League City Store: 110 Gulf Frwy
  • Clear Lake Store: 536 El Dorado Blvd
  • Texas City Store (opened Nov 1996): 907 20th Street (in the old location of Club House Cards & Comics)

 

Alpha Comics (closed around Dec, 1996)

  • Galveston store, Martin Browning

 

Atomic Monkey Comics (what is the history of this store?)

  • 11177 Katy Fry Suite B

 

B & D Trophy Shop (Bob & Doris Fitzhenry)

  • 4402B N. Shepherd
  • 1980s

 

Bedrock City Comics (Richard Evans)

  • Opened March 1990 at 6521 Westheimer
  • 1992, opened 2nd store on FM 1960
  • 1998: Original store moved next door to a larger location
  • 2000: Clear Lake store
  • 2010: 4602 Washington Avenue store
  • 2013 - Main Store moved to 6515 Westheimer (8,100 square feet facility)

 

Big Johns's Funny Farm (John & Burr McDonald)

  • 1022 North Main, Cole's Flea Market in Pearland
  • open at least 1977-1987

 

Camelot (Burrell Rowe, Bruce Hamilton, Russ Cochran)

  • opened June 1977 at 012 Clay (downtown Houston)
  • original partnership dissolved by 1979, leaving only Burrell Rowe
  • Willie Patterson was manager
  • 1980: Burrell Rowe left, and Willie Patterson became owner
  • October 1982: Camelot moved to 2001 Southwest Freeway (former location of Roy's Memory Shop)
  • 1984: Willie sells Camelot to JR Riley and Michael Betker
  • Betker left
  • 1987: Riley moves Camelot to 5539 Richmond
  • 1989: Camelot closes

  • 1980 - Tom becomes sole owner
  • 04/1981 - the business was reorganized, and Tom took on partnersMary and Rebecca Crissman, and Marvin Charles Yoder.
  • 1986 - Third Planet is purchased by TJ Johnson, Store moved next door to 2439 Bissonnet
  • 1986-1987 - Another location opened at Memorial City (10001 K Long Point)
  • 1993 - store moved to 2718 Southwest Freeway
